History & Help

Reading history with git log, show, and diff, finding who changed a line, and getting help.

git log

Slide 1 / 5

git log lists commits, newest first: the hash, author, date, and message.

Useful variations: git log --oneline — one line per commit. git log --oneline --graph --all — a drawing of branches and merges. git log -3 — only the last three commits. git log --author="Ada" — commits by one person. git log -- index.html — commits that changed one file. git log --since="2 weeks ago" — recent commits only.
